Music and Media Literacy
Laura Keller, Music Specialist weaves media literacy into her curriculum.
"WE ARE" is the theme for this year's music! Students at Elliott Elementary are busy learning how media literacy fits into music education!
5th graders worked with Dr. Wendelin, the library/media specialists to create original poetry with themes such as: Responsible Consumer, Violence, Bullying, and "We Are"! These pieces have become the lyrics for original compositions the students wrote with the help of a wonderful computer program called, "Soundtrack". Our artists in residence, Mr. Royce Fowler helped students layer many sounds on top of each other to create wonderful texture and harmony. He was a former Elliott student! The next step to becoming media literate is to take their music and record it onto a cd. We will be able to answer questions like, "How does a cd get produced?", "How will our voices be recorded?" "Can we add sounds to our production?" when we go to the University of Lincoln's College of Journalism in April!
Elliott students will have the opportunity this spring to again work with the Lincoln Community Playhouse! All students 3rd - 5th who are interested in signing may come! Permission slips will be sent out the week of March 29th. Chorus will begin on Monday, April 19th at 8:15 a.m. in the Elliott auditorium. Chorus rehearsal will be everyday for three weeks! The program will be at the Lincoln Community Playhouse on May 8th, 1:00 p.m and 2:30 p.m.
3rd grade Dinosaur Program May 25th, 7:00 p.m.
Band and String Concert May 4th, 7:00 p.m.
5th grade to perform their original compositions on April 29th, 11:30 a.m. at the Child abuse prevention conference at the Cornhusker Hotel.
Elliott Elementary will perform at the "Celebrate Lincoln" festival on Saturday May 1st. The time will be announced soon!
