We Are...one of 17 schools in the country to receive a three-year, federal grant from the Department of Education. This Media Literacy Grant was written by the Specialist Team at Elliott, comprised of the Music, Visual Arts, Technology and Library Media Services teachers, as well as, other staff members. We Are...understanding Media Literacy by learning critical thinking skills, which give us the ability to access, analyze, evaluate and create messages in a variety of forms. We learn what is real and not real in the print and electronic media we see every day. We make decisions about what we choose to see and hear. We Are...graffiti art history students, composers, poets, naturalists, responsible team members, researchers, musicians, photographers, video makers, animators, technology students, billboard designers and media creators. We Are...creators of positive, nonviolent media We Are...partners with local businesses in our projects and we present our projects to the Lincoln community. OUR FOURTH YEAR Because of our partnerships and the hard work of the staff and students, we are able to continue our grant for a fourth year. We will continue our major emphasis on critical thinking skills, enabling students to gain the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to make informed, responsible decisions. During our fourth year, we have exciting plans. We will showcase our student work by exhibiting at different venues in Lincoln. Our first location will be at the Lincoln Public Schools District Office in November. We plan to show other schools how they can participate in Media Literacy activities at their school. Our students will have more opportunities to create their own nonviolent, positive media. We will continue to offer technology learning opportunities for students and staff. We will again create ELLIOTT STREET at Lincoln&#8218;s multicultural festival, CELEBRATE LINCOLN, in May, 2005. 2003-2004 The grant team is in the third year of a three year grant. The grant team includes Specialists (Visual Arts, Music, Computer, Science and P.E.) Media Specialist, Counselor and our Grant Coordinator. We have several exciting projects scheduled for this year. Read all about what we have done and what lies ahead for this project.........<br><br>FIFTH GRADERS recently worked with Lincoln Artist, Liz Shea-McCoy. Ms. Shea-McCoy is the artist of three Tour deLincoln bike sculptures. She specializes in printmaking and will be working in this medium with fifth graders through the end of December. How lucky we are! These students are also working with a former Elliott student and gifted musician to compose their own music. They are working with the Ms. Wendelin, Media Specialist, to write lyrics. All will be seen and heard on Elliott's first student CD - coming this spring! All of the products created by fifth graders in this third year of the grant, will be unveiled at the Lincoln's innaugural Multi Cultural Arts Festival April 30 and May 1. The event will be held in downtown Lincoln. Elliott Elementary will inhabit a large area where work will be displayed and activites will be ongoing, to promote diversity and media literacy in our community. DON'T MISS!!!!!!!
